Michelmores is an ambitious, top 100 law firm, with offices in Exeter, Bristol and London. We offer legal expertise to a wide range of high-quality local, national and international clients.
The Firm works across three strategic sectors - Finance & Investment, Real Estate and Private Wealth.
Our clients are placed at the heart of everything we do – we put ourselves in our clients' shoes to offer tailored legal solutions and advice.
We take an entrepreneurial approach to developing our business, forging opportunities and encouraging and supporting innovation.
Michelmores has an impressive history of growth and we are continuing in this trajectory, with particular emphasis on growing our Bristol and London offices. It is by working collaboratively and capitalising on individual strengths that we achieve success as a team.
We recruit to retain our trainees and are pleased to confirm a 100% retention rate for 2018. We now offer training contracts across our three offices – Exeter, Bristol and London. Trainees spend six months in four seats and are encouraged to experience a broad range of practice areas. Trainees who join our Exeter HQ have the opportunity to undertake seats in Bristol and London and our Bristol trainee spends six months in Exeter. There are also opportunities for client secondments.
Our Trainee Development Programme
Our structured two-year Trainee development programme focuses on building the technical and business skills that are fundamental for you to become a successful Lawyer. You will receive a thorough induction to the Firm and undertake training on a wide range of soft and technical skills, including financial and business awareness, negotiation and presentation skills, and marketing and networking. Once your training contract is complete, you will continue to have access to bespoke development programmes and opportunities at every stage of your career.
The number and variety of seats available across our offices gives you the opportunity to gain a real breadth and depth of work during your training contract, meaning that you do not feel pressured to select an area of specialism too early in your career. In each seat you will be allocated a supervisor who will support, encourage and supervise you during your seat with them. You will also have access to a 'buddy' who will guide you through your training contract and help you feel at home from day one.
The level of responsibility given to trainees is high. You will be running your own files, working in a team on bigger transactions and experiencing client contact on the phone and in meetings, making you an integral part of the team, from very early on.

Our Summer Vacation Scheme is a great way for you to find out what it will be like to work as a trainee solicitor at Michelmores. We run two one week vacation placement schemes during the summer in our Exeter HQ. The scheme is as much about you getting to know Michelmores as a place to work, as it is about us getting to know you.
You will have the opportunity to spend time in one department for the week, as we aim to give you a real hands-on insight into one area of law and life as a trainee by attending client meetings and dealing with 'real work'.
You will learn about our different departments and areas of work, and meet trainees, partners and lawyers. There are also informal lunches with trainees, which will give you the opportunity to gain a true insight into working here.
During the week you will take part in a series of assessment exercises, including a verbal reasoning test, a group exercise and an article discussion. You will also have a formal interview with a partner and a member of the graduate recruitment team.
Although we can't guarantee you a training contract at the end of it, we can guarantee that you will gain a thorough understanding of what it is like to be a trainee at Michelmores.
