What the Firm Says

Since Crowell & Moring was launched, our mission has been to provide our clients with the best services of any law firm in the world through a spirit of trust, respect, cooperation, collaboration, and a commitment to giving back to the communities around us. Today, we are still as passionate about the firm and its role in helping clients to advance their ambitions as the firm’s founding partners were over 40 years ago. Drawing on significant government-facing, business, and industry experience, the firm advises clients on complex litigation, regulatory and policy, and corporate and transactional matters.

We are incredibly proud of the fact that we still serve many of the same clients today who have been with us from day one. Our commitment to and investment in our client relationships has guided our strategic growth. With over 650 lawyers and over 600 professional consultants and support staff based in 12 offices in the United States, London, Brussels, Shanghai and Doha, and consultancy operations in Singapore and Hong Kong, our firm is ambitious and growing. Our London team is central to the firm's strategic plans.

Our London Office

In London, Crowell's innovative and entrepreneurial approach has been important to the firm's growth. Our London team provides a broad range of services to both local and international clients, offering focused and commercial legal advice.

Our Practices

Our capabilities in London include global litigation, financial services, commercial lending, derivatives, energy and infrastructure, competition, dispute resolution and recovery, restructuring and insolvency, M&A, corporate and commercial work, including corporate finance, international trade, international dispute resolution, and arbitration. We represent national and multinational companies and financial institutions clients in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, North and South America, Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, and are well-placed to assist our clients with issues arising across the globe. Our partners are well-recognised leaders in their fields, and as a trainee, you will get the chance to work with all of them during your training contract.

Our Culture

Our culture is one of collaboration, inclusion, encouragement and excellence. Moreover, it really is a great place to work, with a team of

people who genuinely enjoy law and like the people they practice law with. We are a very diverse group and we are extremely keen to not only maintain but to improve this balance. Our commitment to pro bono work is well recognised, and you'll be encouraged to get involved right from the start of your career with us. We are one of only very few firms that include pro bono hours and diversity and inclusion hours towards your overall hours target at the firm on qualification.

Academic requirements

Academic excellence is important to us; however, we appreciate that some people face particular

challenges during their studies. Whilst we expect applicants to have achieved AAB at A-Level (or equivalent), a 2.1 (Hons) at a well-respected university and to have completed both the GDL (if

applicable) and LPC/SQE 1 and 2 with a merit, if there are good reasons why you haven't achieved these grades then we are happy to take those into account. Our application allows you to disclose these to us.

In addition to your qualifications, we also value those who have achieved in an extra-curricular context and who are well-rounded and interesting. Personality is a definite plus at our firm! Our clients are a diverse group, and truly appreciate the strong relationships that we build with them, so the ability to use a breadth of your own experiences to relate to people you encounter at work is a fundamental skill for success at our firm.

Finally, you must have already completed the LPC/SQE 1 and 2 and be able to join us in January 2024. If you have completed the SQE 1 and 2, please note that, if successful, you will be employed as a Trainee Solicitor at Crowell for two years. After this point, your Qualifying Work Experience as part of the training contract will be confirmed.

Diversity interests

At Crowell, we take bold action to keep us moving forward. Accountability, transparency and open communication are the engines of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In addition to wider firm initiatives and groups, we have active DEI and Women's Leadership Initiative teams in London, led by Associates and Counsel.
