The AllAboutLaw perspective on Willkie Farr & Gallagher

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP originally started out as a US firm, but has now made its way across the pond with six offices across Europe. Focusing on anti-trust & competition; asset management; corporate insurance & capital markets; finance; litigation and, investigations & enforcement, private equity and restructuring…., to name but a few, new trainees will have plenty of support, given that Willkie’s first training contracts started in 2021. Small intakes of six trainees a year ensures a close-knit environment and early exposure to clients. As a current associate describes, “at Willkie you’ll be part of a small transactional deal team, which means you are often given a very high degree of responsibility from an early stage of your career, which gives you client exposure from day one.”

Winning ‘Most Impressive Investigation Practice of the Year’ at the GIR Awards 2020 and receiving 52 lawyer recommendations in the 2023 edictions of Chambers UK and Chambers Europe, Willkie trainees are set up for success. Employers also receive great pastoral support, with affinity groups representing the LGBTQI+ community, parents, the Jewish community and those with minority ethnic heritage, as well as the London Chapter of the Women’s Professional Development Committee. .. Current employers describe the environment as “supportive” and that “the partners are very invested in seeing that everyone at the firm achieves their potential and has a successful career.”

US law firms often come with the reputation that they work long, exhausting hours. While you’ll work hard at Willkie, you’ll be well supplemented with a £55,000 starting salary rising to £150,000 once you qualify. The perks aren’t just limited to the salary, with employees receiving an allowance for health and wellbeing, a book club, a ski trip and biannual parties. There is even a retreat every two years all European lawyers, with a trip to Portugal in 2023.
