We structure our teams to match the issues they face and to deliver the best value for money.
Right from the start, we aim to make sure that your time with us is packed with valuable learning and development experiences. In the October before your start date, we’ll enroll you in our ‘buddy scheme’. One of our first-year trainees is assigned to support you during both the year before your start date and the first year of your training contract.
The first two weeks of your contract will be spent on the Professional Skills course, giving you a solid grounding in the basics. You’ll then enjoy an induction, meeting people from across the firm and learning more about life at Ince.
From the moment you step through the door, you’ll be given responsibility for real cases. Although your work will be supervised by partners, you’ll also enjoy a high level of autonomy. The main body of your training will consist of four seats, each of six months duration. However, although you’ll be sitting with a different partner for each seat, you could find yourself working with any of the firm’s partners in any business strand at any time.
There are opportunities to spend seats in overseas offices. Trainees have been seconded to Dubai, Monaco, Hamburg, Piraeus and Shanghai. They will also attend in-house and external lectures, conferences and seminars on practical and legal topics.
In addition to the compulsory training to qualify as a solicitor, you’ll enjoy an extensive training programme – including client communication and document drafting as well as the more specialised subjects relating to our practice, such as shipping, insurance and energy work. You’re encouraged to attend the many in-house lectures that we arrange for trainees throughout the year. Throughout your training contract, you’ll benefit from regular feedback to support your development, both informally from partners when work is completed and through formal appraisals conducted by a partner and our dedicated trainee HR team.
Running during the spring holidays, our two-week vacation scheme gives you a practical insight into our practice and a taste of life as a trainee at Ince.
We welcome a maximum of approximately five people on the Vacation Scheme at any one time so that we can give you all the attention and support you need. Sitting with a partner and with an experienced trainee assigned as your 'mentor', you'll work on real cases – which may involve attending court and hearings, meeting clients, drafting correspondence and doing legal research.
We'll arrange for you to see work in practice, with a tour of the Royal Courts of Justice and the Lloyd's building. You're also welcome to attend any of the many in-house lectures arranged for our trainees throughout the year. And, on top of all this valuable experience, you'll also receive a payment of £300 per week.
With us, you’re not confined to just ‘shadowing’ someone, you will have the opportunity to contribute to live cases. You’re encouraged to learn about all the departments that the firm has to offer and the type of work a trainee would typically be responsible for.
Salary & Benefits
London trainees receive a salary of £38,250 in the first year of their training contract.
Successful applicants for our vacation scheme will receive £300 per week.
Benefits include 25 days holiday, a pension scheme, health and life insurance and season ticket loans.
For training contracts, your field of study will determine when you can make an application. For those who are studying a law degree you can apply from the penultimate year of your degree. If you have chosen to study a non-law degree you will be able to apply from the final year of your degree as you need to allow time to complete your GDL and LPC.
We recruit an even mix of law and non-law graduates, and from a wide range of different backgrounds. A significant proportion of our trainees have also had experience in other areas before pursuing a career in Law, or have already completed the GDL or LPC so don’t be put off applying if you have already graduated.
Ince looks for potential solicitors who have a strong academic background: a 2:1 degree and AAB (or equivalent) at A-level are therefore recommended. The firm is looking for candidates who can demonstrate strong ambition and a clear thought process. They must also be able to articulate why they want to work in law and, more specifically, within The Ince Group. You’ll need to be proactive, able to adapt to working in small and large groups as the need arises, be a constructive team player and demonstrate the desire to work hard with enthusiasm.
We will be accepting applications for our 2021/2022 Training Contract from 1st April 2020 to 10th July 2020.
We will be accepting applications for our 2020 Vacation Scheme from 1st October 2019 and will continue to do so until 26th January 2020.
We recruit on a rolling basis so please apply as early as possible to be in with the best chance of securing an interview. The application process consists of 3 stages; an application form (CV and covering letter included), a video interview and a face to face interview (including a drafting and in-tray exercise). Please note that Training Contract applicants will also be required to attend an assessment centre.
