Training Contract

BLM values the importance of providing you with more than just legal technical knowledge, it’s about equipping you with the skills to become a dynamic legal professional.

Our two-year trainee solicitor programme has been designed to maximise your potential. You’ll complete four six-month seats, giving you exposure to a variety of teams across the business and the experiences needed to develop the skills you’ll need as a qualified solicitor within insurance law.

You may also have the opportunity to spend time on secondment with one of our customers or with the Association of British Insurers. Throughout your programme you will work with our partners and associates on a variety of cases from low to complex, high-value claims, from initial investigation through to trial. You will have all of the support that you need from your assigned supervisor and the graduate team.

Partners encourage early responsibility and expect trainees to manage workloads automonously and as part of a team. We will provide a supportive and friendly working environment and you can expect clear opportunities for career progression and a broad scope of challenging and interesting work.

We recruit a small number of high-quality trainees each year to ensure that we can provide the best possible training and development opportunities – you can be a big fish in a big pond.

Vacation Scheme

BLM’s vacation scheme gives you the opportunity to spend two weeks in one of our offices. You’ll be paired up with one of our current trainees and will have the opportunity to really get to grips with what we do ‘day to day’. You’ll work with our partners and associates too, contributing to live cases and be given real responsibility.

During your vacation scheme you will also have the opportunity to network with colleagues outside of your team so you can start building relationships and start to get to know our people.  We will provide you with a blend of practice group presentations, training and other development opportunities too. It’s not all work though – we will also arrange a number of social events.

The vacation scheme isn’t just about you impressing us… it’s also about you deciding if we’re the right firm for you.

BLM aims to recruit a high proportion of our trainee solicitors from the vacation schemes. As you will have already been through the recruitment process our graduate recruitment team will use the feedback from you and your supervisors to make this decision. Last year over 70% of participants secured a training contract with BLM.

Apprenticeships

BLM do not currently offer apprenticeships. 

Salary & Benefits

Training Contracts: £31,000 (London) & £22,000 (Regional)

Summer Vacation Scheme: £150 per week

BLM will fund the LPC future trainees who have not already completed this.

Requirements

We look for a blend of high academic ability and people who fit with our dynamic, ideas led and ambitious culture. Please note we do not screen any candidates out of the process based purely on academic results, we consider your entire application.

You should be confident and resilient in your approach and demonstrate exemplary interpersonal written and verbal communication skills; you should look forward to assuming real responsibility in a supportive environment from an early stage.

Working with BLM’s prestigious customers, you will have strong commercial awareness and will need to develop your expertise in a relevant field of work to understand the context of our customers’ industries.
