Akin Gump provides commercial legal solutions for high-profile cases. Our work is always fast-paced and often precedent-setting.
We have 22 offices worldwide and our clients range from individuals to corporations, financial institutions and foreign governments.
Our London office is the nexus for the firm’s international practice. Our strategy in London has been to focus our growth around practices that complement the core strengths of the firm. This has resulted in a fully integrated office practicing at the top of its markets. The core strengths on which the office is founded are financial restructuring, corporate transactions (including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity), finance, energy, debt and equity capital markets, financial services regulatory, disputes, investment funds (hedge, private equity, real estate and infrastructure), EU competition and tax. The integrated nature of the practice means that the lawyers based in London regularly work closely with their counterparts in the firm’s other international practices as well as those in the firm’s U.S. offices.
Our teams are supportive, friendly and work collaboratively which allows for multiple opportunities for you to get to know everyone. There is a high level of partner involvement and trainees will learn through first-hand experience working side by side with our lawyers on commercial matters within interesting multi-discipline practice areas and by attaining early responsibility.
Our London office is an exciting and inspiring environment to train as a lawyer. We offer up to four trainee places per year.
By focusing on a smaller intake we maintain flexibility and seek to grow through our junior lawyer retention. You will always be supervised by England and Wales qualified senior lawyers, and will have the choice of sitting within the financial restructuring, corporate/M&A, energy, finance, financial regulatory, funds/investment management, litigation/arbitration, competition or tax practice areas.
Seats can be tailored to three or six month durations across the two year training programme to provide a breadth of experience. Some of our trainees have enjoyed the experience of a seat in an overseas office.
Summer Work Placements
Our summer work placement is an excellent opportunity to gain a first-hand understanding of the day-to-day work of trainees in an international law firm. During the programme, we will place you in one or more practice areas that interest you. Through training sessions, mentoring and social activities, you will get to know our firm. Through working side by side with partners and associates on live deals, you will get to know our clients and practices.
As places are limited, we focus on second year law undergraduates and third year non- law undergraduates studying in the UK. The deadline for applications is 31 January. Apply here.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld does not currently offer apprenticeships in its London office.
