Training Contract

RPC recruits around 16 trainees for each two-year training contract, with three in Bristol and 13 in London. Both offices are designed in a non-hierarchical, open plan format, where trainees get the chance to sit next to partners. Current trainees have described how they “feel totally comfortable approaching a partner for advice.”

RPC trainees are given real responsibility from their first day. If this makes you feel overwhelmed, rest assured you will have plenty of support. Trainees receive regular, informal feedback from their supervisors (they have two supervisors for each seat) as well as formal reviews every three months. You will have four seats, each lasting six months, covering a variety of sectors such as insurance and intellectual property.

During your contract, you will also have the opportunity to do a seat abroad in Hong Kong or Singapore, or be seconded to an in-house seat.

Vacation Scheme

If you are interested in a training contract at RPC, it is very important that you apply for one of their vacation schemes, as the majority of training contracts are recruited from this programme. At RPC, vacation schemes take place in the Summer in the London office.

Each vacation scheme lasts two weeks, and you will be immersed in the world of law. You will have the chance to attend court, speed network with different departments, meet clients and even get real life case experience. This will give you the perfect opportunity to decide if working at RPC is right for you.

Aside from this, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get to know the other candidates and some of the lawyers at the firm. Past candidates have gotten involved in pizza making classes and escape rooms.

If you decide you would like to progress to a training contract with the firm, you will take part in a training contract assessment. This involves a group discussion, a group presentation and written skills assessments. Providing you are successful, you will take part in a motivation interview followed by a Partner’s panel interview.
