Bristows has a training contract but is more unique in that they offer workshops in place of vacation schemes. If there are openings the firm is currently recruiting for, these will appear below. 

Training Contract

Bristows take approximately ten trainees per intake, allowing candidates to have a great deal of responsibility from their first day. Unlike the standard six month seat typical of many law firms, Bristows do a combination of three month and six month seats, meaning you will complete five or six seats. All seats are supervised by a partner and a senior associate.

Bristows trainees are required to complete a six-month seat in patent litigation, but can also do seats in brands, disputes and tax and employment, to name but a few. There is the opportunity to spend three months with a client’s in-house legal team, which helps trainees understand how the firm can best support their clients. 

Trainees sit in lean teams, so they receive a fair bit of responsibility early on. They are also given a lot of feedback: informal daily and mid-seat feedback, as well as a more formal assessment at the end of each seat. They also have a dedicated training partner, who they will have regular meetings with to assess their progress.
