Law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area impacting on most aspects of professional, commercial and regulatory work. And you don’t need a legal background to study our LLM Law.

Course information

You’ll find there’s great flexibility ensuring you pursue a programme of study that meets your needs and which could see you making a positive contribution to the wider, global and national legal communities.

As a postgraduate law student you’ll be able to pitch for a valuable work placement opportunity at our annual cJAM employability event.

For those studying online, teaching and learning is predominantly through weekly synchronous and asynchronous online workshops which draw on the range and experience of your diverse student cohort. Those students attending our Preston Campus will attend weekly workshops with the tutors.

Modules are assessed by coursework which is a 1,000 word essay plan which feeds into a 3,000 word essay. It’s a popular approach as it provides useful feedback for your final submissions.

The course is supported by the University’s web-based Blackboard facility with ICT an integral part of the programme and we subscribe to extensive electronic legal data bases and journals.

There are opportunities, following successful completion of the LLM in International Business Law, to progress onto further study at PhD level.

You’ll critically evaluate areas of law and the way they operate in the domestic, European and International context and your dissertation will develop your critical analytical and research skills.

At cJAM you’ll hear from keynote industry speakers, who’ll share their personal career journey, and you’ll benefit from informal networking opportunities and a chance to pitch for a placement.

Our extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction.

As an LLM Law student you’ll be able to attend cJAM, our alternative career fair where you get face-to-face time with up to 30 successful industry professionals with work placement opportunities. At cJAM you’ll benefit from informal networking opportunities and have eight minutes, one-to-one, to pitch to selected industry guests to win a value work placement, enhancing your career prospects.
