Charles Russell Speechlys Application Process

Make sure you know what to expect from the Charles Russell Speechlys application process, from the application form to the assessment centre. We'll talk you through each element step-by-step right here.

Stage one

You’ll submit an application form through their Apply 4 Law portal. They look for candidates to achieve a minimum of a 2.1 in their degree as well as showcase their other key attributes, such as teamwork, communication skills. If you have mitigating circumstances, you’re encouraged to add details of these so they can be taken into account when reviewing your application.

The firm advises applicants to do a lot of research about the firm, be sure to include all work experience, even if it is non-legal, and check your application thoroughly for spelling and grammar.

Stage two

If you are successful, you’ll be invited to complete a video interview where you’ll see the question appear on your screen and be given time to prepare before recording your answer. Here they want to see more of your individual personality and why you’re keen to join Charles Russell Speechlys. It’s also important to show your broader commercial acumen and international outlook.

Questions will be similar to face-to-face interviews, so it’s a good idea to think about the reason you applied to the firm and what skills you have that make you a good candidate. To prepare, you can try recording yourself answering example questions on your phone, and then watch it back while thinking about how you can improve.

Stage three

The final stage of the process is an assessment centre which will include a face-to-face interview, written task and other exercises which are designed to showcase your skills. People apply from a variety of backgrounds and degree disciplines – our assessment centre is designed for you to showcase your best self and also for you to get to know us in return.

Charles Russell Speechlys recognises that you may not have had any exposure to the law, so will assess you based on your passion for the firm and law as a career. It’s also a good idea to ask plenty of questions, to show your interest in the firm.
