Winston & Strawn Application Process

The application process for Winston & Strawn consists of the following stages.

Initial application

The initial application is submitted online and includes a CV and three written questions. Applications are accepted from students who have achieved or are projected to achieve a 2:1 or above at degree level and who have excellent communication and analytical skills. Applicants must have completed their SQE 1 & 2 by the start date of March 2028.

Watson Glaser test

Next, applicants are asked to complete the Watson Glaser test. This industry-standard assessment allows firms to gauge your analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities which are skills that are essential for success in a legal environment.

Partner interview

Candidates who perform well in the Watson Glaser Test will progress to a partner interview. This is an opportunity for you to discuss your experiences, demonstrate your commercial awareness, and get a sense of the firm’s culture directly from team members.

Vacation Scheme

Vacation Scheme candidates are selected directly from the partner interview stage. Winston & Strawns Vacation Scheme runs for two weeks and offers a hands-on introduction to life at the firm. You will work closely with lawyers, gain practical insight into practice areas, and experience their working environment firsthand. From the Vacation Scheme, three candidates are selected to progress to Training Contracts.
