Training Contract

At Mills & Reeve, training contracts involve six seats, each lasting four months. This allows you to try a variety of different types of law and sectors, you can be confident about which area you want to specialise in. You will even get the chance to move between the firm’s offices.

During your contract, you will be getting involved in real work: meeting clients, drafting contracts and even attending court. If this sounds nerve-racking, you will be supported throughout, with a partner who mentors you. You will also receive informal feedback as well as a more formal review at the end of each seat. If you find yourself struggling, there are one-to-one training skills and lectures for both legal and non-legal skills (e.g. time management, communication) The firm also places a great emphasis on wellbeing, with mental health first aiders.

Vacation Scheme

If you are interested in applying for a training contract, doing a vacation scheme is the perfect opportunity for you to decide if a legal career is right for you. At Mills & Reeve, you will complete two weeks of work experience at one of the firm’s offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, London, Norwich and Manchester.

Candidates get the chance to do real work, such as checking documents and even meeting clients. You will change practice areas every three days, so you can learn even more about the different areas of law that the firm is involved in.

You will also get the opportunity to learn about the culture of the firm, with a variety of presentations and lectures. Networking is also important, so you will be paired with a trainee so you can ask questions. There will also be numerous social events for you to get involved in.

Mills & Reeve recruit their trainees from their vacation schemes, and you will be told whether you are successful shortly after the scheme ends.
