DLA Piper Application Process
Familiarise yourself with DLA Piper's application process. Each firm has a unique process, so it's best advised that you know what awaits you.
If you are interested in applying for a training contract with DLA Piper, you can either apply directly for a contract or first apply for a vacation scheme. However, training contracts spots are taken up quickly, so it is best to apply for a vacation scheme first.
The first step is to complete an online application form. In 2020, the application opened at the beginning of September and closed at the end of December. You will need to upload a CV, but not a cover letter. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, meaning you should send in your application as soon as possible.
Once you have submitted your application, you will be invited to complete a Watson Glaser test. It’s an aptitude test that aims to assess your critical thinking skills, which are vital for a successful career as a lawyer. Practice questions can be found online.
Provided you get through to the next round, you will be invited to an assessment day. This will be made up of a variety of different exercises: a strengths-based interview, analysis presentation and a group exercise.
If you receive an offer for a vacation scheme but are interested in a training contract, you will be assessed for a place during the scheme.
