Everyone thought Nottingham Law School would be the first law school to be granted an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) license, but the University of Law has beaten them to the punch.
The University of Law will now expand its Legal Advice Clinic, where legal advice is provided on a pro bono basis by trainee solicitors and supervised by more experienced lawyers. Pro bono advice clinics are great for students and trainees to get experience in dispute resolution and to also improve their client facing skills, before they undertake a vacation scheme or training contract.
John Latham, President and CEO of the University of Law said, “Being the first University to be granted an ABS status means that we can provide trainees and our law firm and in-house clients with a market -leading proposition that will equip the trainees for the legal and commercial challenges they will face in today’s workplace.
“ULaw now provides our students and trainee solicitors with more than 600 mentoring places, 3,300 pro bono opportunities… and networking opportunities with hundreds of legal recruiters.”
