Britain’s rail regulator, the Office of Rail and Road, has pre-approved a track access agreement allowing Virgin to run up to 20 return services a day from London St Pancras along the ‘High Speed 1’ line into Europe between 2030 and 2040.
Virgin has secured the first regulatory approval from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) to run cross-Channel passenger trains between 2030 and 2040. This decision introduces potential competition for Eurostar, which has held a monopoly over rail travel through the Channel Tunnel since 1994. Although obtaining track access is essential for a rail company, this is only the first step of many before Virgin starts operating.
