What to Expect
In this panel session, early careers specialists from Shoosmiths, Bird & Bird, Hogan Lovells and BCLP offer a clear, behind the scenes view of the selection process, including the stages candidates most often underestimate.
You will hear what preparation actually makes a difference, what students tend to overthink, and how firms evaluate commercial awareness in practice. The panel will also break down what makes a “Why this firm?” answer feel authentic, and how to show motivation for law even without formal legal experience.
The discussion covers assessment centre exercises too, including the behaviours that stand out positively in group tasks, what case studies and written exercises are really designed to assess, and how firms approach fairness and accessibility. You will leave with a clear picture of what “good” looks like, what to prioritise in your prep, and how to show up on the day with confidence and credibility.
