The ‘equivalent means’ provision which allows paralegals who have passed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to qualify as solicitors has seen an increase in applications (woo-hoo!).
Whilst there were only three applications back in January, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) have confirmed 29 applications recently. Four applicants have been approved (aww yeaaah!), with 20 pending (fingers crossed!). Five withdrew their applications (sad face).
The paralegal shortcut allows LPC graduates who can demonstrate “other assessed learning and work-based learning” to qualify as solicitors. The news will be welcomed by LPC graduates who missed out on one of the 5,514 training contracts available in 2014.
