More than six months after they became publicly available to the profession, distinctive .law domain names are still only in use by five UK firms.

Last autumn, it was revealed that the domains were going to become available for authorized law firms to use instead of traditional .co.uk or .com domains, but the deman seems to be relatively low.

One firm that has adopted the name is DWF, who have claimed that the new address is key for being recognized on an international scale.

Their Chief Technology Officer, Richard Hodkinson, stated: “We believe that early adoption of the .law domain puts us at the forefront of digital innovation as we continue to do things differently. The .law domain has global resonance.”

UK web company Conscious Solutions controls the domains, and they have a strict checking process to see if the company in question meets the requirements for the domain.

However, despite the slow pickup, it has been hinted at that many other companies have bought their domain and are simply using it to redirect traffic to their full website.
