AAL Bizarre: Wragge sack supervisor for selling printer toner on eBay

In a situation that could have come straight out of a sketch show, Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co have sacked a former supervisor at the firm for selling one of the firm’s printer toners on eBay, for personal profit.

Andrew Cook, a mapping services supervisor from Walsall, has now left the firm, but he was found to have made £227.34 profit after selling the toner on the auction website, for £230.01, according to the SRA.

The whole scenario was discovered after the toner supplier notified the firm, presumably after getting a number of orders in quick succession, from where Wragge carried out their own internal investigation.

Although Cook transferred the profits (£227.34) back to the company account, he was dismissed by the firm. We like to think it’s due to the deduction of the eBay selling fee.

The SRA stated that his conduct had been dishonest, and therefore was in breach of the rules regarding legal employees. They went on to say it would be ‘undesirable’ for Cook to be involved in any legal practices, and went on to rule that he may not be employed in the future by any solicitor without explicit permission from the SRA.

So, today’s tip – if you don’t fancy getting banned by your legal authority, probably don’t go auctioning company property on the internet. Not that you’d probably thought about doing that anyway.
