The quality of our expertise is widely recognised across our main departments including Corporate & Financial Institutions, Dispute Resolution, Planning, Construction & Engineering, Projects, Real Estate and Private Client. The key sectors in which we operate are energy, power & utilities, financial services, infrastructure, private wealth, public sector, real estate and transport.

We believe it is our people that make the firm great.  Our values of ambition, collaboration, commitment, fairness, quality and respect shape our distinctive culture and are evident across the firm. All our people are based in our HQ in Bristol. This means we all know and work with each other. Training Contract

Training contract 2020

Our six seat training contract is designed to provide you with the greatest breadth of experience possible as a trainee. While traditional training contracts normally include four six-month seats, ours includes six four-month placements. This ensures you gain the maximum exposure to our varied practice areas and experience a wide range of contentious and non-contentious work from across our main departments.

As a trainee you will be given early responsibility balanced with truly open door support.  From the beginning you will be learning from lawyers recognised as experts in their fields who are able to offer the advice and guidance you will need to develop into a trusted business adviser.

Vacation Scheme

Vacation schemes deadlines

Winter scheme: Deadline 3 November

Spring/ Summer scheme: Deadline 11 January

During the vacation scheme you will have the opportunity to visit two departments of your choice over a two-week period. The emphasis is on 'real work' and, under the guidance of your supervisor, you will have the chance to attend court visits or client meetings as well as skills sessions run by trainees and solicitors.  In addition to this, there are many social and sports events throughout the placement that offer a real insight into life as a trainee solicitor.

All our vacation schemes are open to penultimate and final year students from any degree discipline, graduates and those considering a change in career.

Vacation schemes are part of the recruitment process for trainee solicitors to commence training contracts in 2020 so a keen interest in a career in commercial law is essential.

All participants are offered a training contract interview at the end.

Apprenticeships

Our legal apprenticeship programme lasts for 2 years and includes both through-the-job and classroom learning.  All the positions will be based at our HQ in Bristol.  At the end of the two years you will be awarded a Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship and a Level 4 Certificate of Legal Practice, equivalent to the first year of university.  Candidates who prove themselves will be given the opportunity to complete a Level 7 solicitor apprenticeship.

Our legal apprentices are based in our Service Delivery Centre.  The purpose of the Centre is to provide support to our legal departments and clients. The nature of work undertaken by the team is varied and includes reviewing and preparing documents for court, support on project work, or working directly for a client through a secondment.

You will work within a team of paralegals and report to the team manager.  You will be assigned a 'buddy' who will be a more senior paralegal within the team.  They will provide support for your work and advice and guidance on life at the firm.  The team work together very closely and regularly participate in sports, social and charity events at the firm.

When you first begin your apprenticeship you will start out learning the basics.  As time goes on you will be able to experience different areas of the firm, and increase the level of work you are doing.  By the end of the apprenticeship you will have developed a wide range of transferable skills and have a thorough understanding of what it's like to work in a top commercial law firm.

Qualifications/skills required

GCSE grades A to C or equivalent are essential. You will need to have achieved at least a B in Maths and English.
