Lockdown continues! Boris is in hospital. The nation works from home. But how does this all affect this year’s spring and summer vacation schemes?

In light of the current COVID-19 situation, many firms have now suspended their spring vacation schemes, including:

- Allen & Overy

- Baker McKenzie

- Bristows

- Dentons

- Freshfields

- Herbert Smith Freehills

- Linklaters

- Mayer Brown

- Norton Rose Fulbright

- Penningtons Manches Cooper

- Shearman & Sterling

- Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom

- Slaughter and May

- TLT

- Weil

A few more firms have also done the same with their summer vac schemes, including Shoosmiths and Womble Bond Dickinson.

The Magic Circle firm, Clifford Chance, however, will be using a virtual platform called InsideSherpa which will enable the firm to offer a virtual vacation scheme between 1-3 July.

On LinkedIn, Aishling Morris, Graduate Recruitment Specialist at Clifford Chance said: “When considering our options whilst the UK is on lockdown, our first priority has been the quality of the experience for the students. On InsideSherpa's virtual platform we will be able to offer the same sessions we would have offered in person, and more besides. Is it going to be the same as seeing each other in person? No. However, in this situation, we need to adapt and find innovative solutions to ensure that learning and development are not put on hold. We will do our best to ensure that we still deliver an exceptional learning experience and that the students still get an in-depth insight into the firm. I am confident we will succeed.”
