Training Contracts

BCLP trainees complete four seats, each lasting six months. Even before you start your contract, you’ll be enrolled in a comprehensive induction programme, followed by detailed departmental training before and during each seat.

Trainees get involved in hands-on projects involving real clients, with trainees getting involved in calls with clients, legal research and drafting contracts. You’ll also receive plenty of guidance and support, with one-on-one support from the graduate recruitment team, your training principal, a partner mentor and a designated supervisor in each department.

Trainees at the firm also have the opportunity to complete an international secondment, and BCLP even won the Lex 100 award for international secondments in 2018/2019. Past trainees have worked in places like Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Brussels.

Living and working abroad for six months provides trainees with plenty of opportunities to improve their legal skills, as they’ll be working in smaller teams and thus have greater responsibility. There are also opportunities for client secondments.

Vacation Schemes

Completing a vacation scheme gives you the perfect opportunity to learn about life as a trainee lawyer and about BCLP as a whole. BCLP’s schemes take place biannually at the firm’s London office in June and July, and 15-20 students are recruited for each one.

Candidates get the chance to get involved in real-life work in a department of their choice. Past trainees have completed research, delivered pitches to clients, advised charities and attended court. You’ll also have a supervisor providing you with advice and feedback, and you’ll be able to ask them any questions you wish.

When you’re not working, you’ll enjoy sit down lunches with partners, attend talks and workshops, and get involved in social events so you can network.
