A 32 year old man was arrested and slapped with a £190 fine for taking a selfie in York Magistrates Court and posting it on his Facebook page
James Alexander Kyle, a road worker from Selby in North Yorkshire, took a minute to take a selfie documenting his friend’s appearance in court during the time it was in session.
The picture included the magistrate’s legal advisor, but Kyle decided to throw it up on Facebook anyway, trying to reel in the likes.
However, police got ahold of the evidence and he was then arrested under section 41 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1925.
In the same courtroom he snapped the selfie, Kyle was grilled about whether he had seen the notices regarding no photography, and admitting he had seen the signs, explained what a selfie was to the judge.
He pleaded guilty and was given an £85 fine, charged £85 for prosecution costs and handed a £20 statutory surcharge.
Probably not worth it.
