Larry Nassar was handed down a sentence of between 40 and 175 years in prison at the cumulation of his abuse trial. The doctor, who formerly worked with US Gymnastics team, admitted to abusing and molesting girls under his care under the guise of medical treatment.
Many of Nassar’s former victims spoke up in court, facing their abuser and testifying to his guilt. Nassar made a brief statement, acknowledging their “pain, trauma and emotional destruction”.
Rosemarie Aquilina, the judge handing down the sentence, said: “It is my honor to sentence you because, sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again. Anywhere you walk, destruction would occur to those most vulnerable.”
