2027 Summer Vacation Scheme (for 2029 Training Contracts)

Our award-winning summer placement scheme is the ideal introduction to Mills & Reeve. We recruit all our trainees through our summer vacation scheme, therefore candidates should apply to us for a place on this scheme, to be considered for a training contract. You'll enjoy two weeks' work experience at one of our offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, London, Manchester or Norwich. 

During your time with us, you'll work with a variety of lawyers, moving to different parts of our practice every two or three days. You'll be placed in situations where you can do real work, such as undertaking legal research, preparing or checking draft documents, attending court, meeting clients or serving proceedings.

Our offer:

Experience sitting in three different departments/practice areas over the two weeks, giving a broad insight into life as a trainee solicitor.

Opportunities to undertake real legal work, including research, drafting, checking documents, attending client meetings and observing legal work in practice.

A trainee buddy who can answer questions and help candidates make the most of the scheme.

Support from seat supervisors who provide mentoring and day-to-day guidance.

A programme of presentations, lectures, IT and research training, personal branding and DEI sessions, helping candidates understand the firm and legal practice.

A range of social events and networking opportunities with trainees, lawyers and partners. These are designed to help candidates get to know the firm's culture and people.

Exposure to the firm's culture, sectors and practice areas, with candidates treated as part of the team from day one.

Scheme date:

June 2027

Shortlisted applicants are invited to an in person assessment centre, including an opportunity to meet trainees. You undertake a group exercise, an individual presentation, a written exercise and an interview with a partner and principal associate.

We'll welcome applications from penultimate-year/final-year law students, final-year non-law students and graduates (any discipline). We'll sponsor non-law candidates to undertake the PGDL before the SQE prep course.
