Law has been taught at Birmingham for over 100 years. Being so well established, we have educated and continue to educate students from all around the world, for whom the cosmopolitan and global nature of Birmingham holds great appeal.

At the heart of this is a strong faculty of academic lawyers who are leaders in their fields. As such they conduct cutting-edge research which informs law reform and contributes to the policy-making process. The most recent Research Excellence Framework confirmed that 96% of our research is judged to be internationally recognised and these will be the staff you are taught by and research alongside.

At Birmingham Law School, we work hard to make sure our students go onto fulfilling jobs, or gain advancement, after they have left us. We do this through CEPLER, our Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research, who organise careers events and an annual postgraduate mooting competition. Many of our students from home and abroad have gone on to become judges, QCs, and partners in some of the world’s largest law firms. Others have been highly successful in the industry, commerce, government, and the third sector, since it is generally agreed that law as a discipline equips graduates well for a large variety of careers.

Birmingham Law School is part of the College of Arts and Law, which provides support for postgraduate students across all subject areas. We offer excellent resources for postgraduates, from libraries and research spaces, to extra-curricular activities and funding opportunities. All of this is available on our beautiful 250-acre green and leafy campus, providing you with a perfect environment to support and develop your postgraduate experience.
