The School of Law provides an intellectually stimulating, friendly, and supportive environment in which to hone your legal skills. You will develop a thorough appreciation of the legal system and the role of law in society. You will be directly supported by internationally excellent academics and by specialist legal practitioners.
In year 1 you learn the fundamentals of law. You tackle case studies and learn the process of legal reasoning, as well as the role of law in society.
In years 2 and 3 you will take more advanced modules, specialising in particular areas such as criminal law, immigration and asylum, commercial law, and employment law.
As well as legal research skills, we also teach you practical skills like advocacy and communication. All our Law students are also given the opportunity to take part in mooting and client interviewing competitions. We regularly enters teams into external competitions and we have performed consistently well at both national and international level.
In addition to the wide range of optional modules on our LLB Law degree there are also specialist degree pathways available to you in your second and third years. This will lead to a qualification in either LLB Criminal Justice or LLB Commercial Law, all of which aim to enhance your career prospects.
Our dedicated student support co-ordinators are on hand from the day you start to the day you leave. They are here to help with everything from academic advice, such as helping you choose your route through the modules, through to any personal issues you may experience.
The University's free study service - Upgrade - is available to anyone who needs advice on study skills, from planning and writing essays to highlighting areas for improvement. You'll also be assigned an academic adviser right from the start of your course, providing you with invaluable academic support and supervision throughout your degree.

The School of Law offers an international transfer degree programme. This allows you to transfer to us part way through your law course, and complete your degree at Oxford Brookes. We offer both a 2+1 pathway (2 years at a partner university and then your final year at Oxford Brookes) and a 1+2 pathway (1 year at a partner university, and then 2 years at Oxford Brookes). This programme gives you a thorough grounding in all the core subjects you need to practise as a lawyer, along with the opportunity to improve your language skills whilst you live and study in Oxford – one of the most celebrated student cities in the world.
To ensure the employability of our graduates we encourage them to take part in the many additional professional skills we offer such as client interviewing, mooting, pro bono opportunities and both solicitor and barrister mentoring programmes.
In addition, we host the annual Oxford Brookes Law Fair – an extremely valuable networking event attended by potential employers, many of whom are able to offer training contracts to promising candidates.
