Bar Vocational Studies (BVS)

Developed to replace the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), all our Bar Vocational Studies (BVS) programmes qualify you to be Called to the Bar of England and Wales. Our full-time, part-time and two-part programmes offer you a choice of learning methods and routes depending on your requirements and learning style. You can also choose elective modules and LLM routes which are both practice-focused and academically rigorous.

The full or part time BVS offers a face-to-face learning option providing students with a high level of interaction with tutors, professionals and peers. Students will have the benefit of working in small study groups, simulated courtroom environments and a choice of three different routes (a Postgraduate Diploma in Bar Vocational Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma with Specialism, or an LLM).

The Two Part option is the most flexible way to complete the vocational stage of training for the Bar. This programme has two distinct parts, each separately priced, with each part having separate registration points and a different mode of delivery. Successful completion of both parts leads to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Bar Vocational Studies.

Students may be eligible for a Postgraduate Student Loan if choosing the LLM route.

Applications are welcome from international students.

Students who complete the BVS are eligible to be Called to the Bar of England and Wales, and will often go on to the next stage of training – pupillage.
