Veale Wasbrough Vizards or VWV was created in 2009 out of a merger between Vizards Tweedie and Veale Wasbrough Lawyers. Headquartered out of Bristol, with a second office in London, the firm employs a staff of around 300, including fee earners, and has so far generated revenues of £22 million.

The firm is known for its practice in the healthcare, education and charities, and public and family-owned businesses; plus regular services in the commercial sector and exclusive services for private clients. The firm also manages two separate branded services—Augustines Injury Law and Convey Direct.

Training Contract

The training contract starts with an induction programme covering an overview of the firm, areas of practice, client base, policies and procedures of work, including training in I.T. systems, general administration and business development activities.

Trainee solicitors are paired up with a supervisor, usually a partner or a senior lawyer, who is responsible for assigning and overseeing work done by the trainee on a daily basis. Informal assessments of performance are conducted on a quarterly basis.

This is in addition to an annual performance review where future job objectives, training and development goals and needs are identified and recorded.

Vacation Scheme

The firm offers a summer vacation placement scheme for a small intake each year. Interns spend a week understanding the working of a commercial law firm, tasks expected from solicitors and the scope of training and professional development opportunities provided by VWV.

Salary & Benefits

The company sponsors the full course fees towards completing the GDL and/or LPC for candidates who’ve accepted a training contract from VWV. An interest-free loan is also provided to help with living expenses during the study period.

Academic: A 2:1 or higher degree in any discipline; a 2:2 degree may be considered on an exceptional basis, if the candidate has a proven track record of other non-academic achievements.

Qualitative: Individuals who display teamwork, excellent communication skills, are self-motivated and open to accepting challenges; instil confidence among colleagues and clients and have a highly-developed commercial awareness in areas pertaining to clients’ businesses and the practice of law.
