Shoosmiths is a leading national law firm with twelve offices across Southampton, Reading, London, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Edinburgh and Belfast.
The top quality of client service that we provide is recognised by the national awards that we have won. These include ‘UK Law Firm of the Year 2015’ in the British Legal Awards and being the first top 100 law firm to be accredited with ‘Investors in People Gold Standard’.
Our impressive client list reflects the quality of our lawyers. From Hewlett-Packard to Krispy Kreme, and property developers to some of the UK's largest banks, we work with a growing number of the FTSE 250 and some of the world's most exciting businesses.
We are an innovative, ambitious firm with a lack of hierarchy and zero tolerance for arrogance and believe that this makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.
The training contract consists of four six-month seats. One of these could be a secondment to a client’s in-house legal team, providing invaluable insight from the client’s perspective. Past secondments have been made to companies such as Volkswagen Group and Mercedes Benz.
Only one trainee is allocated to each team. This means that you will enjoy high levels of enjoyment with your team and clients. Seats are allocated based on trainee choice, SRA regulations and availability. The most regular seats for trainees to complete at Shoosmiths are corporate, commercial, employment, and real estate.
The two year programme begins with an induction and involves networking opportunities for trainees within and outside the firm. Training is a mix of ‘live’ experience and formal sessions, covering all kinds of skills including the mandatory professional skills.
Online applications are open from early December to 30th June each year.
A one-week paid summer vacation placement programme is conducted in the Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Reading, and Southampton offices each year. Interns are placed in one practice group and buddied with a current trainee solicitor for the week.
Placements are conducted during June and are open to final year non-law students, second year law students, students currently pursuing the GDL or LPC and graduates.
Online applications are open from early December to 28th February each year.
Please see Shoosmiths website for details on any current apprenticeship vacancies.
