Training Contract

Trainees at Fieldfisher complete four seats, each lasting six months. There are no compulsory seats, although trainees complete one contentious and one non-contentious seat. This is in line with the SRA’s guidelines. There are a variety of different seats available, from real estate to finance to personal injury.

Throughout your training contract, you will be supported by a supervisor in each seat. This will be a senior associate, director or a partner. They will provide you with a variety of client work, give you feedback, and discuss how you can make your career goals a reality. Trainees also have a buddy who is a newly-qualified solicitor, so they have recently been through the process of completing their training contract.

Trainees also get the chance to do a secondment to a client’s office, with past trainees working with Viamcom and the BBC. Trainees can even go on an international secondment to San Francisco! There are also a variety of clubs on offer, such as netball and a choir. There is also a packed social calendar, with past events including karaoke nights, wine tastings and a summer BBQ.

Vacation Scheme

Vacation schemes at Fieldfisher last two days, and are the perfect way for you to find out if a law career is right for you. They are open to second year students. The first day involves talks about the firm’s culture and strategy, as well as workshops for candidates to grow personally and professionally.

The second day allows candidates to shadow a trainee or associate, so they get a real insight into life at a busy law firm. Completing a vacation scheme puts candidates in a strong position if they wish to apply for a training contract at the firm.
