Law LLB (Hons)

Our qualifying Law LLB (Hons) degree combines academic study with opportunities to experience law in practice, preparing you for a career as a legal professional or to work in the justice system.

Taken over three years, or four years with an optional salaried placement, core learning provides practical skills in presentation, negotiation, oration, mooting and advocacy, and a thorough understanding of the English legal system.

This degree is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation (SRA) Authority and the Bar Standards Board and include opportunities to obtain the required qualifying work experience. This includes the opportunity to provide free legal advice to members of the community, under the guidance of qualified solicitors, through our pro-bono Brighton Legal Clinic.

From 1 September 2021, the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority introduced the Solicitor’s Qualifying Examination (SQE) as the new route for qualification as a Solicitor. Our courses include SQE preparation and opportunities to achieve qualifying work experience to contribute to qualifying as a solicitor. As a qualifying law degree, you will also be able to progress directly to the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to become a barrister.

As this course is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board you will be in a good position to embark on a legal career upon graduating. But, good communication, problem-solving, analytical and research skills developed during your law degree are also relevant to many careers such as banking, insurance and Civil Service.

Our careers service is also available to you to help you achieve the career you want, right from your first day at university.
