What is covered in the course?

Whilst at the Southampton Law School you will develop an in-depth understanding of the ever-changing world of law while benefiting from the exceptional expertise of the internationally respected scholars who ensure that the latest and most up-to-date national and international law is brought to the lecture theatre.

You will gain a thorough overview of the legal system. The Law modules will cover all of the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for accreditation as a Qualifying Law Degree. These requirements are:

  • Legal System & Reasoning
  • Contract Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional and Administrative Law
  • Land Law
  • Law of Equity and Trusts
  • Tort Law
  • Law of the European Union

In addition, students take part in a rich legal skills programme that includes Team Building and Mooting.

Fees and Funding

Our high student to staff ratio and our emphasis on developing skills for your future career mean you will be getting excellent value.

For 2015 and beyond, the University will continue its generous package of direct student support, with a wider choice of support options available to UK and EU students.

If you meet the criteria, you will be able to choose between a bursary, partial fee waiver or a combination of both. This choice will be available in each year of study for which you are eligible for support.

If you are a student from the UK or the EU, you will not have to pay your fees at the start of the academic year:

  • If you live in England, you can apply for a loan from Student Finance England to cover your tuition fees. You will only start repaying this once you are earning over £21,000 per year. You can also take out a loan to cover your living costs.
  • If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will receive financial support from the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly Government or the Northern Ireland Executive.
  • If you live in an EU country and meet certain eligibility criteria, you can apply to Student Finance England for a loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees.

 

The standard annual fee for UK/EU students starting full-time undergraduate degrees in 2015/16 is £9,000.

Undergraduate tuition fees for International students starting full-time undergraduate degrees in 2015/16 are £14, 660 per year.

Employability

Southampton Law School is exceptional in having thorough and well organised academic and personal, legal and employability skills programmes. The personal development programme commences in year one, together with team building and mooting programmes. In year two the Employability Skills, Streetlaw and Pro Bono programmes commence.

Over the course of three years LLB students develop a good mix of subject specific and technical skills as well as transferable core skills. These are essential, and when linked with skills and experiences derived from paid work, work experience, volunteering, family responsibilities, sport, membership of societies, School of Law graduates are highly sought after by legal and non-legal employers.
