The School of Law has been at the forefront of innovative law teaching for more than 40 years.

Renowned for our emphasis on vocational courses and close links with local law firms, we have also gained an international reputation as a major centre for academically rigorous legal education and training. We have a thriving research community including the Centre for American Legal Studies - a research centre of excellence, and have carried out high profile research on topics such as human rights law.

American Internship Programme

We run the UK’s largest student internship programme to the USA, giving you the chance to spend a summer working in America at a Federal or State Public Defender office, private attorney office, university law school or law project. The majority of internships are in offices engaged in Death Row work, giving you the opportunity to work on real cases.

Mooting Society

Our Mooting Society is one of the most successful in the country, with our students regularly enjoying dramatic victories at national competitions. Mooting gives you the opportunity to develop your research and advocacy skills, network with legal professionals and become more confident and articulate through presenting your case. Our fully equipped mock courtrooms enable you to gain experience of realistic legal scenarios and develop your legal skills.

Legal Advice and Representation Unit

Our Legal Advice and Representation Unit (LARU) is an optional module on the final year of the LLB that enables you to spend one day per week to work in a local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), other not-for-profit advice centres, or with a firm of solicitors. You can apply your academic knowledge to real-world problems, developing essential practical skills in interviewing and advising clients, conducting research on their cases, drafting legal documents and negotiating on behalf of clients.
