  • Weil Gotshal lawyers not qualified

  • 02nd September 2010
  • Recently qualified solicitors at international firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges had a shock recently when they discovered they were not, in fact, properly qualified.

  • Seven trainees at the firm who had undertaken the Profession Skills Course (PSC), a compulsory course for trainee solicitors, had failed to take part of the course.

The trainees, who took the PSC at the College of Law, had been told in error either by the CoL or the firm itself that they could miss part of the course. When the situation came to light, the individuals concerned took a further course ensuring that, in line with Solicitor Regulation Authority regulations, they were fully qualified.

A spokesperson for Weil told AAL: “It was a genuine misunderstanding between the provider of the course and us.  [The associates’] careers were not adversely affected and it was simple to rectify.”
