Vac scheme applications soar as deadlines loom
- 19th March 2010
The deadlines for many 2010 summer vacation schemes are looming at the end of March with the January deadline for the majority already passed.
Meanwhile, applications for vacation schemes at law firms have soared, according to a survey carried out by the Lawyer. With the marked increase in training contracts, some firms have admitted that the numbers of applications for vacation schemes have increased by more than 70%.
Bird & Bird, which had a 100% retention rate of trainees last year, says applications rose from 700 to 1,200 this year. Slaughter & May reported a 22% increase for its summer vacation scheme, Lovells a 20% increase and DLA Piper reported a 15% leap in applications.
But not all city firms have seen such a big increase including Berwin Leighton Paisner, which has seen only a 1.5% increase.
