  • Trainee selected to defend Labour

  • 02nd April 2010
  • A trainee solicitor who got through a selection interview involving questions as strange as who was evicted from Dancing on Ice, has become a Labour candidate for Stalybridge and Hyde.

  • Jonathan Reynolds, who has been a Labour councillor since 2007, was grilled by Labour ex-ministers Keith Vaz and Tom Watson and is now the candidate for the seat vacated after the resignation of James Purnell who had called for Gordon Brown to step down as Prime Minister.    Jonathan will now get the chance to defend Labour’s 8,348 majority at the general election.

The nature of the questions asked at the selection panel caused some consternation.  Questions included asking candidates to name the last film they saw, and which act was number one in the charts.  Jonathan said his selection “is an honour and a privilege”.
