Trainee avoids jail after child porn offences
- 03rd December 2010
A former trainee solicitor who downloaded more than 4,500 pornographic pictures and videos of children has escaped jail.
Rajeev Grewal from Edgbaston, Birmingham, who worked at Sutton Coldfield firm Bell Lax Solicitors for two years, pleaded guilty to ten charges of making indecent pictures, and five of possessing them.
Birmingham Crown Court heard that his home was raided by police in 2008 while he was abroad after being alerted by activity on internet chat rooms. Some of the images involved children as young as seven and were of the most serious nature.
Grewal was sentenced to a three-year community order and placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years. He was spared jailed by the mitigation of his lawyer who said the offences had occurred a long time ago and because he had pleaded guilty. His parents, with whom he lived, were also in poor health.
