Student Sues School for Failure to Get into Law School
23rd May 2012Haven’t got a university place? Sue your school.
A student at one of Australia’s most elite private schools is suing the school after failing to secure a place to study law at the University of Sydney. She told the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal: "I didn't ever feel I was getting the support I needed to really excel."
An example? Apparently her English teacher told her to stop using long words in her essays. According to the Telegraph, “this had left her confused and made her doubt her ability to write essays. Her English marks subsequently began to fall and she became distressed.”
We kid you not.
According to the school, the student was suspended several times, disorganised and failed to complete her school work. Still, she feels that the school was to blame for a failure to get a place to study law (although she could have studied law at other less prestigious universities).
It gets worse: her mother is also suing for £25,000 for the cost of moving to a new house to send her daughter to the school and argues that her daughter coming back home forced her to give up her cookie business which “would have made £300,000 over a three-year period”.
The mind boggles…
