Times student advocacy competition

Prizes worth £7,500 are up for grabs in this year’s Times Student Advocacy competition which will involve posting a presentation on YouTube.
The competition, sponsored by Herbert Smith, is inviting entrants to write on the subject: Should Equality Laws Trump Freedom of Conscience? The winning entrant will be awarded £3,000 and an interview for a vacation course.
Entrants must be registered with a British educational establishment on the closing date of 5 July. For the first stage of the competition, entrants must submit a written skeleton argument of up to 400 words with a link to a 90-second presentation on YouTube that addresses one aspect of their argument.
The six shortlisted candidates will go on to present their full argument in a 10 minute slot to a panel of judges to include Mrs Justice Rafferty, Shami Chakrabarti, the director of Liberty, Nigel Savage and Frances Gibb, legal editor at the Times. The second prize will be £2,000 with £1,000 for the third prize and three runners up will receive £500 each.
