Students facing higher university tuition fees
- 10th November 2009
The UK’s leading universities hope to have the right to substantially raise tuition fees after a review of fees commenced this week. The review’s report is not likely to be published until after the next election but students could see a fourfold increase in fees.
The so-called Russell Group, an association of leading UK research-intensive universities, says the existing ceiling of tuition fees as unviable. A spokesperson said: “Our leading institutions cannot continue to be internationally competitive, provide a first-rate teaching experience and offer generous support to disadvantaged students without access to increased funding,”
An increase on such a scale will be yet a further blow to law students who already face record debts and intense competition for training positions.
