SRA freezes minimum trainee salary
- 23rd June 2010
The minimum salary for trainee solicitors is to remain unchanged until at least September 2011 because of the current economic climate.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is imposing the freeze on the minimum trainee salary which is currently £18,590 in London and £16,650 outside of the capital.
The SRA’s recommended salary for London trainees is to remain at £19,040 and £16,940 for trainees outside of the capital.
An SRA spokesperson said: “The Solicitors Regulation Authority has decided the 2009 minimum salary levels for trainees remain unchanged for 2010-11 for London and for the rest of England and Wales in view of the current economic climate.” The minimum salary was imposed to protect trainees from exploitation in the legal market.
