Sports and law combination at Coventry
- 10th June 2010
If you love sports and want to be a lawyer, Coventry University could be the place for you.
Its Centre for the International Business of Sport (CIBS) is to launch a post-graduate programme in Sports Law, reflecting the growing complexities of sports issues.
The one-year programme runs for the first time from October 2010 at Coventry University’s new London campus in East India House. Sports law is already a growing niche area of law with lawyers specialising solely in sports law.
Dr Anna Semens, who is leading the new programme’s development team, says: “Here at the university, we are excited and proud to be associated with such a high profile, prestigious programme. We firmly believe that there is a significant need for such a Post-Graduate course, and we look forward to recruiting some highly motivated students and delivering some exciting lectures.”
Director of CIBS, Professor Simon Chadwick, believes that the Sport Law programme fills an important gap in the market place: “Given the growing number of legal pressures that sport faces, we feel our new programme will make a significant contribution to the overall development of sport law.”
