Shortened LPC for Linklaters trainees
- 17th February 2010
Trainees set to embark on training contracts at city firm Linklaters in September 2011 will be taking a new accelerated LPC course with the College of Law (CoL).
The new fast-track LPC will last a little more than seven months and has been introduced following feedback from recent trainees who have questioned the need to spend a whole year on the LPC.
The students will start the course in January 2011 instead of the previous September; and those starting their training in March 2010 will start the LPC in the previous July. The course will combine traditional teaching alongside on-line tutorials and study. Linklaters has also cut its maintenance grant from £7k to £5k in proportion to the shortened LPC.
The CoL says: “The course is identical in content to our usual LPC with the same number of teaching sessions but condensed into a slightly shorter time frame. For instance the students will have five workshops per week rather than the usual four and will carry out more online study.”
Simon Firth, trainee development partner at Linklaters, says: “The increased pace should make the course more engaging. Since students will be starting their training contracts immediately afterwards they will also be putting what they have learned into practice while it is still fresh in their minds. Students who want to will be able to start their training contracts earlier than under the previous system. Those who want to take a break will have more time to do so.”
