  • Record numbers of students refused college place

  • 14th August 2010
  • Worries about being unemployed on graduation has proved no deterrent to students anxious for a university education if the results of a Guardian poll are anything to go by.

  • Just days before A’ level results are due to be released, the survey reveals that all courses at universities in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Warwick are already full.

And record numbers of A’ level students are to be turned away from top universities as they tell students who will apply through the clearing system that they are full.  The Guardian, which surveyed 38 universities, reveals that some of the best students will not secure a place this year.

Admission tutors are expecting that up to 170,000 students could be without a place on a degree course this year compared to 130,000 last year.
