Push for in-house trainees
- 17th March 2010
In-house legal departments are under pressure from the Commerce & Industry Group to take on greater number of trainee solicitors.
The Group’s new chairman, John Bleasdale is reported to have said he wants its 4,500 lawyer members to increase the number of training contracts on offer at in-house legal departments.
Currently, just 48 private companies take on trainees such as Sainsbury’s and Vodafone. The C&I is drawing up guidance for its lawyer members on how to run in-house training schemes.
For information on which in-house legal teams are registered to take trainees check with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
*This week’s Law Society Gazette includes an interview with John Bleasdale.
