  • Pupillage Awards increase to help future barristers

  • 15th June 2011
  • The Bar Standards Board has announced that the minimum pupillage award is to be increased starting from September 2011. Students beginning pupillage later this year now receive a minimum of £12,000, a £2,000 increase on the previous rate.

  • The Bar Standards Board announcement comes when the Solicitors Regulation Authority is also due to announce what the minimum wage for trainee solicitors will be for the following year. The rate has been set at the same level since 2009.

Although an increase is obviously a welcome boost for students, with BPTC fees now lingering around the £15,000 mark, it appears there is still a lot to go before things are evened out.
