  • Partner mentoring at Freshfields

  • 05th February 2010
  • City firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed some of its partners as trainee mentors as part of a new initiative.  Each trainee intake will now have its own partner mentor who will be available to talk over the trainees’ experiences, secondments, qualifications and the various seats the trainee will take during training, according to Legal Week.  The February intake has also been appointed a trainee mentor.

  • According to the firm’s trainee partner Simon Johnson: “The trainees will be able to approach a partner (on a confidential basis) for impartial advice on issues affecting how they spend their training contract.  The partners involved are interested in the trainees, and in many cases were trainees here themselves.

Hence, they appreciate that there are difficult decisions to be made about seat moves, secondments and qualifications.  The partners are also able to provide insights into the mid to long term implications of those decisions, whereas the trainees sometimes focus mainly on the short term.”

The trainees will get to know their mentor from the outset and will have regular discussions on their development.

Freshfields is a leading international corporate law firm and recruits around 100 trainee solicitors annually at its London office.
