  • Parents post-graduate guide

  • 13th January 2010
  • A new guide written for the parents of recent graduates has recently been launched by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.  It aims to help parents support their graduate children in the search for post-graduate work and education.

  • The ‘Parent Motivators’ guide gives parents the information to help them understand the different roles available, explains the unpaid options available and sets out case studies.  It also contains a section entitled: “How to motivate not alienate”.

But for students hoping they can rely on their parents to do all the ground-work for them, take note: parents are encouraged not to take over or nag; to not discourage their children - and avoid being over-supportive.  Parents are also encouraged not to dismiss their children’s ideas but to encourage them and be realistic.

The guide is available to download for free at www.agr.org.uk/content/Graduate-Recruitment-a-free-parents-guide
