  • OxILP launches LLM in Legal Practice

  • 21st July 2010
  • An LL.M in Legal Practice is now on offer at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice (OXILP) - the result of a collaboration with the Law Department at Oxford Brookes University - and will bridge the gap between the academic and practical elements of law.  The new degree is designed to help students increase their employability through in depth study of an area of legal practice.

  • It will enable students to conduct research into their chosen area of legal practice which together with their LPC will qualify them for the award of LL.M.  Successful applicants will also be required to undertake a two-week course in Advanced Legal Research Methods straight after completing their LPC.  They will then have until September to submit a research proposal and a further year to complete a 12,000 word dissertation.

Programme Director, Michael Holdsworth, says the wide-ranging expertise of the dissertation supervisors will create a very distinctive course:  “We are delighted to be able to offer students an opportunity to develop a more research led approach to legal practice.  We are committed to building research capacity within the Institute that will add an exciting dynamic to our LPC.”

The programme is also available to external applicants who have an LPC equivalent to 120 M-Level credits or have studied either the Bar Professional Training Course, Legal Practice Course or the QLTT.
